Brushing

Routine brushing is the most important step in coat and skin care. The choice of brush will depend on your dog's coat type. Good brushing technique with the correct brush distributes the skin's natural oils for a healthier and shinier coat. Brushing separates topcoat while removing undercoat reducing shedding and preventing matting. A well cared for coat is more comfortable for your best friend and certainly enhances his social standing! Most coated breeds will require a slicker brush for best results. You must part the coat and brush from the skin out in layers. As shown in the image to the left. Otherwise your best friend may end up with horrible matting that must be shaved from his skin like the poor dog whose matted coat created a pile as large as the dog itself, as shown in the image to the right. Read Karla's article to learn more about the tools and techniques you need to properly care for your dog's coat.
